In 1980, there were only about 600.000 cars on the streets auf the city but this number increased to five million cars and is still continuing to rise rapidly. Bangkok`s road network has reached its limit with a number of about two million cars. A result of that are traffic jams in which drivers spend an average of 60 hours every year. The usage of private cars and motorcycles in the city amounts to 9.700.000 per day.
