
MRT - METROPOLITAN RAPID TRANSIT
The MRT - Metropolitan Rapid Transit is operated by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and opened in April 2004.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Metropolitan Rapid Transit is an underground system located in Bangkok. It is connected with other mass transit systems such as Bangkok`s Train System including the BTS Skytrain or the Airport Rail Link. It consists of two lines which contain the color blue and purple and has 54 stations.
CONNECTION AND FREQUENCY
The first route installed is called the "Blue Line" and it provides services at 18 stations, totaling 21 kilometers from Hua Lamphong Railway Station near the city center to Bang Sue North Railway Station that forms a lasso-like loop around the city. The load capacity is 50.000 people per hour or 600.000 passengers per day and its speed can sometimes reach 80 kilometers per hour. The second stage emphasizes two more lines with a total length of 91 kilometers. The construction of the Purple MRT Line started in 2010 making its route from Bang Yai to Rat Burana totaling 40 kilometers long. The last one is the orange line, which is 37.5 kilometers long starting from Din Daeng and ending in Taling Chan.


PRICES
When taking the MRT, you must obtain a one-way pass or a MRT pass. Like BTS, travelers can also get a one-day pass for 120 baht. As the railway system is operated by different companies, it is not possible to use the MRT one-day pass to ride the BTS. The service hours of the MRT are from 06:00 to 00:00.
