Effects and impacts of the different transportation modes

Updated: Dec 15, 2020

Socioeconomic Impact

The resettlement process needed for the continuous construction of the roads has taken place by large, without major incident. Due to the absence of a final report on the resettlement process projected for a number of families, the only information available on the present situation of the families that were resettled, their housing and economic status, is in the 2005 BME report. This is based on a survey of 50 relocated citizens, some of whom supposed to live within the area close the main roads. Despite the information is uneven, the main conclusion is that the relocation hasn’t been improving the lives of the relocated citizens, increasing the travel distances to and from work and the separation from their relatives, but also hasn’t had a serious negative impact either. For the people living around the main roads, the more convenient travel opportunities were noted when creating a new road for the citizens, but income had not changed and noise and dust pollution had risen.

As cities start to both grow and expand, speeding tends to stay stable with moderate to high traffic congestion mostly in the central area. Therefore, the congestion spreads all over the geographical area into the low season periods, including the weekends.

Environmental Impact

Traffic disruptions are not negligible, making it impossible to limit the impact on traffic, resultant air and noise pollution and accidents. The reports note that pollution effects on the road remain well within the admissible limits; the noise effects for instance upon schools nearby the road exceeded the limits (70 decibels) occasionally. Estimates of future growth are currently revised as rising. Although, the use of personal vehicles is going upwards, the available data on moving pollution in Bangkok, fully monitored by Thailand’s Pollution Control Department, displays that the percentage of key pollutants has generally remained the same or has declined. The Government’s strict measures to limit emissions from new cars are responsible for this. Both long-term and short-term maintenance plan of the roads are somehow lacking. In view of the growth of government’s financial resources, the road part is considered to be more sustainable in the near future.

Tourism

Transportation is a major factor that supports the activities of visitors; however, the region’s transportation system has difficulty meeting the needs of both the city’s

population and visitors, as the increase in visitors and residents who use the transportation system has created more traffic jams and accidents, which affect the country’s tourist image

The current situation of Thailand and more of its capital, Bangkok, is that they rely immensely on road transportation, especially private cars making it impossible to increase capacity for this kind of vehicles. Transportation is a major factor that supports the upcoming activity of visitors. The region’s transportation system has difficulty meeting the needs of both the city’s population and visitors, as the increase in visitors and residents who use the transportation system has created more traffic jams and accidents, which affect the country’s tourist image. On the other hand, without a stable public transportation system, the travelers who come to visit the whole country or various places within it, are in an impossibility of reaching a different point without a rented private car or motorcycle.
